Who's house? The New Yorkers house!

Is the best writing the pieces that win awards every year?  I am not sure but I do think that great writing can be found in pieces that did not win awards.  The pieces that win awards are undoubtedly great pieces of writing but they are also the ones that get the most interest.  My point is that the writing that wins awards is not the only great writing out there.  Papers like The New Yorker take in the best writers from everywhere; they are a powerhouse that everyone wants to write for because they have a prestigious reputation.  This is why they win the most awards, just like why the Yankees win 27 championships; they buy their way to being the best.  I am sure there are plenty of brilliant stories being written about every day; however, it is practically impossible to keep up with all of them so judges can only focus on papers like The New Yorker.  I am not blaming the judges and I am not blaming The New Yorker but I am saying that when a piece of writing wins a Pulitzer Prize, I am not a hundred percent sure that it is the best writing of the year.

  1. I agree with you that there ARE other forms of great writing out there. Whether they have won awards or not. Some great pieces of writing don't always get the proper recognition whether it is for biased opinions, some form of special connections or what have you. Just because you DON'T win an award does NOT mean your paper, story, video, etc is not a great piece. If you put the time, effort and true qualities into the piece and give it your all, you ARE a great writer. Winner or loser.
